The Austrian Kennel Club (ÖKV), founded in 1909, is the umbrella organization of about 100 dogs Austrian federations, with around 500 affiliated clubs that deal with sports, housing, education, exhibition, training, testing and breeding of the dog. The Austrian Kennel Club International is the only Austrian Dog Federation Member of the international umbrella organization of the Kennel Club, the FCI (Fédération Cynologique).

The Fédération Cynologique Internationale is the World Canine Organisation. It includes 84 members and contract partners (one member per country) that each issue their own pedigrees and train their own judges. The FCI makes sure that the pedigrees and judges are mutually recognized by all the FCI members.
